Build a Bear Huggable Hero 10,000 Scholarship

posted Jan 23, 2013, 11:23 AM by Larissa Little

Do you know young leaders in your school who are making a difference in the community and beyond? If so, here’s a unique scholarship opportunity that’s based on good deeds.

From January 18 through February 28, Build-A-Bear Workshop® is accepting nominations for its 10th annual Huggable Heroes® program, which recognizes young people, ages eight to 18, who go to extraordinary lengths to make the world a better place.

In celebration of the 10th birthday of the Huggable Heroes program, Build-A-Bear Workshop is joining forces with The Jefferson Awards for Public Service, the prestigious community service recognition organization co-founded by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Senator Robert Taft, Jr. and Sam Beard, to provide state of the art charitable entrepreneurship training and mentoring through their GLOBECHANGERS program.

Build-A-Bear Workshop will award 10 selected Huggable Heroes with $10,000 ($6,400 educational scholarship; $2,500 donation to the 501(c)(3) charity or Canadian cause of their choice, and $1,100 Jefferson Awards GLOBECHANGERS mentoring scholarship). In addition, the 10 Huggable Heroes will receive a celebration trip to Build-A-Bear Workshop World Bearquarters in St. Louis, where they will be honored for their achievements.

The Huggable Heroes will participate in a one day Jefferson Awards GLOBECHANGERS BOOTCAMP, be linked to a mentor from the business or public service community, and be invited to participate in a year-long supported mentoring program. The system is geared to equip the newest generation of philanthropists with tools to build a lifetime of public service.

Entry forms are available online at buildabear.com/huggableheroes or at any participating Build-A-Bear Workshop store through February 28. Anyone ages eight and above -- parents, grandparents, relatives, siblings, teachers, community leaders, friends, young people themselves -- may nominate a candidate

We are hoping you will help us spread the word to inspiring kids – or better yet – to your entire school so all of your young leaders can learn about this opportunity. We look forward to hearing about your amazing student leaders. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions!
